On my soap box again here, but I thought it worth ranting about one more time.

The bike lane, in an American city (or suburb!), is a waste of tax payer money and public resources. It is pandering to the very, very few; and there is no return on this investment. I can’t imagine how much money gets spent annually on Bike Lanes…I assume it’s way too much.

What’s the point? People aren’t going to suddenly start riding bikes just because a bike lane showed up. Normally, you are going to have those two or three bike people per day using it - that’s it. Does this save gas? Does this improve something in the world that is measurable?

I think what it does is pander to a liberal idea; a belief that people want to ride bikes, want to give money to “public works”, etc. The reality is that most people drive cars, and want to give their money to private charities that produce results.

To be honest, I think Bike Lanes create a safety problem. Roads have cars going around on them. 45, 55, 60 miles per hour. Big and metal. Then, there is some guy with his weird skintight pants scooting along at 8-12 miles per hour, in a microlane beside these cars. What a great idea!

Until we re-engineer our entire culture, these lanes are a retarded idea that should be banned, not encouraged.

If you use a bike lane, I hope you enjoy the thousands of dollars that weren’t spent on anything important.
