I’ve seen every episode of Survivorman and I’m ready to call you out, Les Stroud. I know hauling and setting up the cameras is hard work, but I don’t think you are truly the “Survivorman” you want us to believe. I have seen episodes where it was unclear that you EVER found food (that one where you famously tried to hunt a seal, for instance); I have seen you drink coconut juice almost exclusively (which will kill you eventually, you know…of the runs)…egads.
And it’s not rare for you to tell the audience about how much you haven’t had to eat. So where is the survivorship in that? Let’s face it: you can go without food for a good while (depends on your body condition) and water for up 3-5 days. So it isn’t at all impressive to see you get a little hungry or thirsty.
I vote that you try out some real survival; get dropped off for a MONTH somewhere hostile. There; now you will really need to know and worry about securing your food, water and shelter. Instead of “getting by man”, you could really be Survivorman. And jeeze - just get a camera crew, will ya? Just tell them not to get anywhere near you, and you could focus on better fishing methods than digging a ditch (remember how you just caught a turtle…??? Did you think, really, you were going to get a catfish in that???).
Don’t want you to die, don’t hate you…nothing like that. I just think your show is watered down, because you do some dumb stuff, don’t really have to keep yourself hydrated or fed, and pretty much seem to be a little more amateur than you probably want to be.
Rock on.

You do realize Stroud is actually a survivalist, right? And you do realize that “surviving” is often about “getting by”. You’ve seen every episode but you haven’t paid attention to the premise of the show…Apparently you didn’t pay attention to all the episodes you watched because he has most certainly been able to trap and find food on many different ocassions. Surviving is all about “getting by” as you put it….THAT is what surviving is……..until you can get yourself out, or until you get rescued. Its not that crap on the GAME SHOW called “Survivor”. If you wanna see how someone THRIVES in an environment alone, check out the movie “Alone in the wilderness” a documentary style film about Dick Proenicky who lived ALONE in Alaska for 30 years. But thats not what Survivorman is, nor does it claim to be. If you wanna see Swiss family Robinson with games and sexual inuendo watch survivor, if you wanna see what it would be like to actually survive watch Survivorman.

Oh yeah, about “man vs wild”….I’ve never watched it but all the reviews of the show are absolutely terrible. Even people at the Discovery channel website despise the show….supposedly he rode a wild horse…..yeah, SURE!!!!!!!!!!! Ever been around a wild horse? If that thing had been actually wild it would kicked his brains right out of his skull…..I saw him parachuting off a cliff in the commercial. Ooookay………………riiiiight! Nice way to “survive”….he might do a lot of cool stunts, but thats what it is and drama. It might be fun to watch it its not “surviving”! Not saying what he does isn’t difficult, but its a show, more like an “extreme” version of Survivor….Survivorman is totally different. They can’t be compared.

Wow. Nothing like someone being in love with Les to get me laughing. Is that you Les? So hungry you can barely make sense?
Listen, I enjoy the show. Obviously, I watch it. I just don’t get that impressed with how Les gets by, that’s all. He overexerts himself, then he complains and talks about being alone, and then he fails to catch food. Oh yeah, then he plays that damn harmonica.
Anyway, didn’t mean to excite my one visitor into a rant. Just calling Les out a little, that’s all. Hell, I can barely find food in my pantry.

well i really like the show both of you have really good points but he does do a good job but here is reality if you were to be stranded or lost in a remote area i don’t think you would be that knowledgable like les about the vegetation or the area in the episode where he was in the canyons in utah he found this wild grass to make tea with now a average joe who were to get lost would never know what the hell that stuff is or even know he could use it for energy but les did because he is prepared which is a good thing but most of us don’t ever think we will be lost in the wilderness so now surviving would look totally diferent from that perpective now what i like about the show is the way he makes do with whats out there for shelter and he explains what to look out for when selecting shelter but despite all the things we can throw out on this forum that bother us about the show i watch most of all because it’s entertaining i’m glad there is a show likee that out where u can enjoy it with your’e family that is’nt crap like those reality show like survior or the batchelor !!!

Yes, survivorman is such a phony! Bear is much better, he doesn’t whine nearly as much as this guy. He also is straight from british SAS and has no doubt had some sort of SEAR training which has proved invaluable. Screw survivorman I hate that guy. Hard to survive with $10,000 bucks worth of gear on every episode huh?

Interesting comments for sure, on its own merits Survivorman is simplistic, but then again how much detail can you put into a one hour show. I think Mr Stroud does a commendable job of presenting the physical aspects of survival and tries to also make it clear that the emotional aspects need to be addressed. To be entertaining while also setting up and tearing down gear and finding shelter, food and water are formidable obstacles indeed. If anyone can do it better they should pitch the idea to a Hollywood exec and get their own TV show. I would like to see more details about how to set traps and capture food and obtain water, but I can also look it up myself if I am interested enough. This show piques my interest since I am a serious Euell Gibbons fan I would love to see this info incorporated into the show, I think this show is an overview of survival 101, and I enjoy it a great deal
