I’ve managed to read a little lately, so I thought I’d share with you the things I’ve gone through. A bit of a classic Sci-Fi slant here, but I’ve missed some good literature by being biased against the genre…I just have a fine line where my suspension of disbelief quickly becomes irritation, so I have to be picky.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

This is the book that Blade Runner the film ( Blade Runner (Five-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition) )was loosely based on. The book was very satisfying; I’m glad I finally read it.

I think the book in this case is actually a different work than the film, and that both are strong in their areas. The book tells a slightly different story, but it makes you really live through the struggles that Deckard has retiring the “andys”. The movie gave you insight into Deckard, but it wasn’t at the same level. The trade in live animals plays a significant part in the book, but is glossed over in the film, for instance. Anyway, 5 out of 5 stars for both the book and the film.

Snow Crash (Bantam Spectra Book)

I’m barely started with Snow Crash, but so far it’s moving a little slow. I’m a patient reader, so I’ll work on it, and update you later.

Stranger in a Strange Land

This one got a little fruity towards the end. It starts with the interesting premise of a man, a human, raised by Martians returning to earth. It ends with a the formation of a cult and the typical Jesus figure dying for someone’s sins theme in full effect. Somewhere in between, there was a good bit of free love and veiled homosexuality. This one might be a classic for some reason, but I thought it edged beyond a good story to being a little overbearing with it’s not-so-hidden meanings.
