1. It can absorb your day. I can fiddle with computers, my network, or an X-Box for well over 8 hours in a row. It can eat a hole right in an afternoon.
  2. It gives little back. I feel like I do alot with technology in my day to day life, but it’s…lonely. I mean, it can be fun, it can be entertaining, but it isn’t human. I can learn things on Wikipedia, or I can go be with friends…see a movie. I hate this point, because I often choose to hang with the X-Box or the interwebs; this is a self-reflection type complaint.
  3. I have too many cords. Every damn thing I own has it’s own proprietary power cable. It’s ridiculous. God forbid you have 5 laptops, 4 computers, an iPod, a PSP, a digital camera…etc. You will have so many cables laying around that you wonder what they are for half the time. And alot of homes are not built with 300 plugs per room. So that means your cables make you buy more cables: power strips. Geeze.
  4. Big Boxes. Some retailers still shove their computers in boxes that you could hide a clown family in. You could make homes for the homeless out of two Dell boxes. My last laptop was so packed with foam and literature (mostly junk) that the box was probably twice the size it needed to be to be protected. Wassup wid all that.
  5. That shitty hard plastic one-piece packaging. You know what I’m talking about. You go and buy some new headphones, and they are sandwiched between two hard pieces of clear plastic, that is sealed around the edges. Good luck, my friend. This means you will be carving, cutting and generally cursing for at least 10 minutes to rip your new gizmo free. This packaging is cool for the retailer - you get to see the item being sold, and it’s “safe” from 5 finger discounts. But, it is a HUGE hassle when you get it home. My hands are usually sporting an injury from this stuff on any given day.
  6. You know it can be done, but no one will do it. This infuriates me, to be honest. Why has it taken so long to get my phone, email and calendar on one device? And why is that same device still a half-assed media player? And further, why isn’t a full computer as well? All of this can be done. Apple is about to come close with the iPhone. But there are plenty of other technology milestones that need to happen. Why can’t I download Battlestar Galactica from SciFi.com whenever I want it? They would probably have more people see the ads on their site than commercials on the show, if only they would give me a hi-def download to grab. With do damnable DRM on it, please.
  7. Waiting on more technology. I see these shows on Discovery that show me what is coming. And, 5 years later, I’m still not getting my lawn mowed by a robot. I’m still not using my entire wall as a video display. My oven isn’t all knowing about how to cook my food, and the fridge does not make my grocery list for me. So I wait.
